Moving to a new home can be a challenge for anyone. But if you have lived in your home for 40 or 50 years, making a change can be difficult. There are lots of things to consider. Whether you are a senior or you are helping a senior move, the transition can be harder than usual.

Here are some moving tips for moving into your new home:
- Get Help. Moving is one of those tasks that we all need help with. Enlist your family members to help organize your move. Get help with the packing, scheduling, and transition. Have one person that can oversee the move from beginning to end. This point person should be willing to help you find a new place, pack up your current home, coordinate the movers and day of the move, and help you set up your new place to your liking.
- Pack in Advance. After many years of living in the same place, you may have accumulated more stuff than you realize. Often times it doesn’t make sense to take it all to the new place. Have a trusted family member or friend help you decide what to keep, donate, or discard. This can be an emotional process. At this time, don’t be too hasty about what to discard. You can always pack up your things and store the items that won’t fit into your new place. Or re-home certain items with family members.
- Hire Trusted Movers. Moving is already a stressful event, so there is no need to make it more so by hiring movers that you can’t completely trust. Look for a moving company that has ties to the community. They should have a physical address, be willing to give estimates in writing, be rated by the Better Business Bureau, and have licenses and insurance. Get at least three estimates to ensure you are getting a quality service. We offer a free estimate on our website.
- Keep it Familiar. Moving means change. But keeping familiar things close by can help ease the transition. If you are moving into an assisted living community or in with family members, try to set up your new bedroom in a familiar way. Keep pictures, knickknacks, and small furniture. This is a new chapter in your life, but a little familiarity will help you be comfortable in your new place.
Starting a new chapter in life can be scary. Finding trusted people to help will make the transition that much smoother. Give us a call at T-N-T Moving Systems 704-523-1455. We offer packing, storing, and moving services. We also specialize in moving antiques and pianos.
