Moving any time of year can be dreadful, but moving in the summer heat is especially miserable. June, July, and August are the busiest times for moving companies. And it Charlotte, North Carolina that means we will be sweating!

“People choose to move in the summertime because of school,” explains Todd Koepke, co-owner of TNT Moving Systems. “Summer is a time of transistion for parents with school aged children. They don’t want to uproot them during the school year, so they wait until summer to move. This is also true for college kids.”

So if you find yourself moving this summer- here are some tips to beat the heat during your move!

Hire professional movers. Of course, we as a Charlotte moving company are going to encourage you to hire someone. We hope that you consider hiring us at TNT Moving Systems. If you plan on hiring movers, any movers, know that summer is our busy time. Plan your move ahead and schedule as soon as possible. Weekends fill up fast. Consider moving during the week.

Unburden yourself. Get rid of stuff you no longer need weeks before the move. This will help save time and money. No reason to move stuff to a new place if you no longer want those items. Check out our blog on places to donate in Charlotte.

The Early Bird Gets the Worm. The earlier you start on the day of your summer move the better. It is cooler in the morning. As the day burns on, the heat will get to dangerous levels. Consider getting a start as early as possible.

Keep your Utilities On. Make sure that your old place and new place have electricity. You’re A/C will be working overtime on a hot day, but it will be worth it. Also, you will want your refrigerator working to keep things cool. Food can spoil quickly in the heat.

Drink lots of Water. Hopefully this is a no-brainer. You will want plenty of water or bottled water available for yourself and the movers. If you want, get some other drinks like Powerade or Gatorade to replenish lost electrolytes.

Be Heat Conscious. Be aware of what you are packing in the moving van. If you are moving a long distance, things could melt or warp in a hot moving van. Pack things like candles, batteries, cds, videos, and computer equipment separately.

These tips are just a guide. Give TNT Moving Systems a call for a free estimate. We are the Charlotte Movers that can move you anywhere!
